Palm Desert, CA: Melissa Morgan Fine Art is pleased to present AFTER GLOW x TWINART, an exhibition featuring the works of Ellen Kahn and Lynda Kahn (AKA TwinArt). This special exhibition will include “tuned in and tuned out mashups” of the twin sister’s artwork with early work from the 1980s thru 2023. TwinArt integrates video, new wave music, double-exposure Polaroid 20x24 photographs, mixed digital media, and light sculpture. Their interdisciplinary approach to art combines media- storytelling with technology, to include television and computers, transmitting an afterglow... a pleasant effect or feeling that lingers after something is experienced.

Two clear vinyl LPs of unique female gazes, into the NYC downtown art scene circa late ‘78 -‘85, through the lenses of a variety of feminist perspectives on post-punk and true new wave!

An ultra-violet time machine to a micro-scene viewed and heard through the curation of Emmy-award winning, twin artists, Ellen Kahn and Lynda Kahn AKA TwinArt. This magnificent journey features their music with Taste Test, (lyrics by Joan Durand and music by David DeSario) they created as video artists; along with other female voices from within their orbit. (Eugenie Diserio of The Dance, Julia Heyward and T Venus, and Jill Kroesen) David DeSario is credited with composing and recording in collaboration with TwinArt songs PoodlePaper, Wrong#, Rubber Goods, Trashy Fashions, Hands on Hands Off. Eugenie Diserio and Steve Alexander of The Dance collaborated with TwinArt on the song Double Shot of Love with Don Hunenberg as the sound engineer. Liner notes by Ardele Lister.

TwinArt Presents: Instant This / Instant That LP is built around their seminal, groundbreaking music videos (2 years before the launch of MTV) featuring and also directed by TwinArt. The eye-catching videos score raves at the Mudd Club, Whitney Museum, The Kitchen, Pompidou Centre, and Tokyo Video Biennale.

While it may not be exactly true Ellen and Lynda invented the music video, there is no doubt they were part of a small group of artists who pioneered the genre. - Leslie Tonkonow, Leslie Tonkonow Artwork + Projects.

TwinArt presents Instant This / Instant That vinyl double LP and CD on Sundazed Records / Modern Harmonic release date September 16, 2022 also streaming on all music services.

Cave Girls + Trashy Fashions Unseen Post-Punk Videos by Women

Instant This / Instant That

A screening of short films, performance footage and experiments by women artists, filmmakers and bands made in the context of late 1970s + 1980s post-punk, no wave and related music scenes in the United States. Largely unseen for decades, the videos shown in this program were digitized from obsolete video formats in 2013 as part of the XFR STN project at the New Museum. Digging for gold, curator Herb Shellenberger has compiled a video mixtape featuring: the hilarious pop promo/commercial hybrids for imaginary products by TWINART; performance artist/fashion designer Colette Justine (of Justine and the Victorian Punks) showing her dreamy, surrealist apartment studio and installation at Danceteria; the speculative history of "CAVE GIRLS” and their bizarre relation to punks like Bush Tetras and Y-Pants; and much more.
